It’s vital to keep in mind when scheduling a rhinoplasty: the specific geographic location is not the first decision you should make. When you’re planning on having a rhinoplasty to reshape your nose, there is no substitute for experience, surgical skill and communication when choosing a surgeon that specializes in rhinoplasty in Westchester. Finding those qualities is the first task to ensure that you’ll be happy with your “new” nose and enjoy a successful rhinoplasty.
Choosing the best plastic surgeon for you can be confusing, so it’s important to prioritize the qualifications that will bring you the best rhinoplasty results. Surgical experience is the number one predictor of consistently good rhinoplasty outcomes. Focus your search first upon finding a top rhinoplasty surgeon, with 10+ years of experience and high-level skills (like facial reconstructive skills).
After researching a few surgeons’ certifications, skills and training, meet with one or more of the likely choices. Then, consider how well you and the surgeon are communicating. It’s crucial to be sure that your rhinoplasty expert understands your goals for your nose job–that’s why it is essential to provide you confidence in the surgeon’s abilities. After you find the right rhinoplasty surgeon, only then should you worry about the location where your surgeon practices. You might want to have your Westchester rhinoplasty in NJ, for example.
Location Concerns for Rhinoplasty
The Northeast is the Place for Rhinoplasty for Westchester Residents
The important details mentioned above do not mean, however, that the location where you’ll have surgery is unimportant. It just shouldn’t be the first thing on your list. Focusing your initial surgeon search on highly populated metro areas in your region IS a good idea though. Here on the East Coast, you’ll find many cities within driving distance of your Westchester home that have excellent plastic surgeons—with lots of experience from seeing thousands of patients in busy city practices. The top cities and areas to find an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon would be NYC/Manhattan and New Jersey, specifically Bergen County.
The Trials of NYC Rhinoplasty
You may be wise to cross Manhattan off your list just due to the sheer inconvenience and stress of getting there on surgery day and going home, then returning for rhinoplasty follow-ups, bandage and splint removal. Moving around Manhattan, finding parking and riding crowded elevators (or traversing a building lobby/valet parking area in bandages) is not fun–and it can be stressful. You want to limit your stress to speed your recovery after rhinoplasty.
The other problem with Manhattan: high rhinoplasty cost. Beyond the logistical concerns noted above, you will pay more (for anything and everything) in Manhattan. Yes, there are some great surgeons in NYC, but they have to support some very expensive real estate and practice overhead costs. Prices will be higher, including surgical fees, the surgery center costs, anesthesia and more.
While costs may be higher, more importantly–the time spent with you may be shorter, due to the number of patients that must be seen per day. Time spent with your surgeon planning your procedure is crucial–because you need to ensure the rhinoplasty surgeon really hears and understands the results you desire from your nasal surgery. And you need time to be sure that risks are explained to you very clearly and that you understand completely. You need time to ask questions and get detailed answers. You also want your surgeon to take all the time needed to do careful work when performing your surgery.
You are, of course, the only one who can decide if the trials of Manhattan are “worth it” if you meet with a great surgeon there. That’s a personal decision you must make, considering all the pros and cons. If there’s one populated area you might consider foregoing, however, it may be NYC. Time off from the crowds may be why you enjoy living and spending time in the spacious neighborhoods of Westchester, after all.
Reasons to Love Bergen County NJ for Rhinoplasty
At Cohen/Winters, we decided long ago to locate here in Maywood, in Bergen County (northern NJ), partly because of our philosophy of partnering closely with patients for the best in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Close to NYC and Westchester
We love being close to NYC (and Westchester) because it is so convenient for patients all over the north east. This gives us a wide set of patients with different nasal problems and goals for their rhinoplasties. Performing all these varied, complex rhinoplasty procedures for the past decade and more has given me the chance to perfect my technique. That helps me to provide the results that each patient wants and needs–no matter how different each case is. Bergen County, NJ is a great place to develop the precise, meticulous surgical skills required for a stellar rhinoplasty outcome and it’s a comfortable environment for me to give my patients the individual attention they deserve.
Convenient, Accredited Surgical Center
Our highly regarded Vanguard Surgery Center is located just next door to provide high-tech surgery capabilities and the best care for our patients. Our staff, including top anesthesiologists, are drawn from the cream of the crop of physicians with state-of-the-art skills.
Plenty of Varied Rhinoplasty Experience
Dr. Cohen and I have spent time at prestigious medical institutions all over the north east after having met and worked together many years ago at Hackensack University Medical Center here in NJ. We still maintain surgical privileges at Hackensack and I also serve as head of the Facial Reconstructive Surgery Department there. When we decided to share a practice, NJ was definitely the place. It allows us to practice in a patient-centered manner where we spend time getting to know each person who comes to us to discuss their rhinoplasty needs.
Time for Communication to Provide Personalized Care
When we meet with you as a prospective patient, we feel it’s hugely important to take time to learn your unique needs and goals for your surgery. Your nose is part of what makes you YOU! We are here to help you achieve what you want, provided it’s humanly possible. We use our considerable skill and experience to do our best for each person who comes through our doors. Sometimes we’re not a good match for a particular patient–still, we want to provide useful information to help individuals improve their lives. I find difficult rhinoplasty procedures to be some of the most rewarding that I perform, because I love seeing the smile a patient gives us when I remove their splint a few days after surgery. A great rhinoplasty makes your whole countenance shine brighter, including your smile and your eyes.
Artistry Meets Medical Science
Dedication and good intentions alone won’t get you the nose you want, of course. You’ll be pleased to find that we have years of experience with the most challenging rhinoplasties in Westchester, including corrective rhinoplasty for patients unhappy with their first surgeon’s work. In fact, patients fly in from far and wide for revision rhinoplasty here to fix a past nose job. (Of course, Westchester patients have only a 40-minute drive to the south and east to reach us.)
When you visit my office, you’ll be able to view hundreds of photos of past work and we can discuss the best strategy to bring your facial features into harmonious balance. This provides most of my patients with a view of my aesthetic abilities to help them achieve the nose reshaping that they truly want. There is no assembly line or cookie cutter approach here, I take time to understand the type of look you desire and provide guidance if you have questions.
